Leather Care Basics: The Daily Routine

A few consistent habits make leather care simpler. Keep the surface clean, protect the bag from unnecessary pressure and give it a suitable place to rest between uses.

After carrying

Empty out loose items and gently remove surface dust with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Check that pens, cosmetics and liquids are closed before putting them back. Avoid overfilling: a closure should meet without forcing the body out of shape.

If the bag gets wet

Gently blot surface moisture with a clean, dry cloth. Leave the bag to dry naturally away from direct sunlight, radiators and hairdryers. Do not rub a wet patch or attempt to speed up drying with heat. For a mark that remains, ask for advice suited to the exact leather and finish.

Between uses

Support the shape lightly with clean, unprinted tissue and store in a breathable dust bag, away from damp conditions and strong light. Keep heavy objects off the bag and avoid leaving straps under tension.

Before applying a product

Cleaners, conditioners and protective sprays are not interchangeable. A product suitable for one finish may alter another. Contact AKINNA before using a treatment, particularly on metallic, embossed or unfamiliar surfaces. For more detail, read our guide to identifying your leather finish.
